This event is supported by the SACF Society, SDP (The GEF Small Grants Programme) and UNDP to raise awareness on the effort to save the Shah Alam Community Forest.
For quite some time, Setia Alam residents have been fighting for preservation of their forest. In the beginning of 2019 they called on the Selangor government to protect the forest in Shah Alam for the benefit of the surrounding community. SACF is proposing that the Shah Alam Community Forest be gazetted as a “community managed” forest reserve. In such case the local community would work with local government agencies to manage the forest.
SACF secretary Alicia Teoh: “At most forest reserves, people are not allowed in. We would like to propose that, maybe around the perimeter of the forest, there can be hiking trails for people,” she added.
