Ti-Ratana is a community service set up in the spirit of compassion to both serve and provide shelter, education and care to the underprivileged members of the community. It is also a voluntary, not-for-profit, non-partisan and non-denominational organisation offering a wide scope of community services.

The welfare society was founded in 1994. Ti-Ratana has a President and committee elected yearly by its members to oversee its operations. It all began with a monk’s dream of offering assistance and care for the underprivileged. That monk is Ven. K. Dhammaratana, or better known as Reverend Ratana.

Over the years, Chief Reverend Dhammaratana had referred many people who came in search of help, counselling, and shelter at the Buddhist Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields (Kuala Lumpur) to other government and non-governmental organizations. As more cases were alarmingly escalating, Reverend Ratana thought about setting up a sanctuary to offer various forms of direct assistance and services to those in need as well as a platform to reach out the general public, to create greater awareness in the quest to attract stronger support for those needy people. A sanctuary would also allow the opportunity for the Buddhist community to contribute to the well-being of our society too.

Currently, Ti-Ratana offers the following social and community programmes and services:
– Children’s Homes/Orphanage (about 200 children)
– Old Folks’ Home (about 100 senior citizens)
– Shelter Home for Women
– Home for the Handicapped
